Saw "The Godfather" in a shop the other day.

Was a bit disappointed - the impression I got was that although technically it was a "euro", the way they'd constructed it negated most of the benefits delivered by a real "euro" (e.g. lightness, maneuverability, efficiency, speed of shot, etc).

Although it was only a 100cm model, it looked like it was much bigger from the sheer bulk of the components; thick, heavy spear, bulky, overbuilt barrel, huge, and I mean HUGE, chunky handle (it looked like it was built for someone with a hand the size of the "Hulk"'s).

In other words, they'd stuck to the typical Undersee "clunker"-style construction. Good, in that it'll probably last longer than you will, but lousy in that it'll probably perform more like a "clunker" than a "euro".

Mind you, it wasn't like I had the chance to compare it in the water against another "euro". So I guess the jury is currently still out on "The Godfather",.... but it's not looking too good thus far.....

Cheers.

By "top end" I'm guessing you mean was it muzzle-heavy?

To be honest, I don't know - I didn't take it down off the wall, so I can't really comment on the weight or balance of it.

It did however look big and I'm guessing it'd be heavier than a "euro" of the same length (e.g. a Picasso Century 100cm).

The one I saw was in the Queenscliff Bait and Tackle shop - if you're curious have a closer look & let us know what you think.

Cheers!

When Undersee announced their intention to build a eurogun I had expected that something along the lines of the Riffe eurogun was going to appear. Undersee have virtually the same trigger mechanism (Riffe copied it, in fact the first Riffe spearguns were based on modified Undersee parts), so it would be a relatively straight forward exercise to build their own version in timber.

I have yet to see a "Godfather" in the "metal", but it looks rather similar to some other designs like the Hammerhead from the USA which in turn is like the Beuchat "Mundial/Marlin" in the rear handle area. The plastic rear handle moulding is what I am referring to, not the lower rubber grip which pushes over the inner core of the handle.

What a DICK!!!

How can you tell a speargun is crap, not lightweight, not maneurverable, it has a over built barrell, not efficient and has slow speed spear. Also apparently it has a oversize barrel, thick heavy spear and huge handle made for the Hulk.

Well this is what Vegeta say's. And all his comments are from seeing it on a shelf. And then when questioned about a few things he turns around and says to be honest I don't know, I didn't take it off the shelf.

I know us Australian's are quick to bag things but maybe have some experience and knowledge on what we are going to give a bagging to first.

For the record I have tried this Godfather speargun and the Don as well and as mention on other forums they are pretty good.
The barrels are about 28.5mm (rob allen 29mm, f..k this must be well over size, must move like a boat anchor), Spears are 7mm diameter (sh.t same as most other topend spearguns, even rob has some 8mm on guns, must shot like a snail), as you call it the hukly handle is real nice (you must just have small hands, that's right you didn't take it of the wall, f..k me)

To finish my spray on Vegeta I suggest you run for PM you sound as full of it as Kevin Rudd.
PS don't forget my $900 hand when you get in.

Prawn, nobody is really going to care because the post has been dead for a long time. It also appears a rather aggro first post as well. You'll be much better off if you tread lightly first off.

Ok, here is my 50 cent - this not a “euro” gun, maybe it’s a good gun after all but it’s definitely not a “euro”.
This is a “euro” gun:

“Euro” gun came with flat barrel for quick turning aside. This is a diving condition in Europe, you need to be able to perform quick turning (very worry fish) with minimum energy loss (when fishing on 25m + you need to preserve your energy).
They can call it whatever they want, but they can’t call it a “euro” gun.

The funniest thing is that in Europe they want to make “Australian” or “South African” guns, and here they are making “euro” gun. I don’t think that the fish are really care what killed it.

Hey guys i have this gun (the godfather), i have to admit i won it and wouldn't of bought it but i LOVE it and find it amazing. there is no trouble with manoeuvrability and the trigger mech is so smooth. i actually like the larger handle and find it more comfortable. its now my primary gun.

plus it may be a girl thing but i like the bubble camo..... :P

I was under the impression a "euro" gun referred to the mechanism and the shape of the end of the spear that locks into it??????
