hey paddy, if you ever come down to a meeting you'ld find that all the experienced and senior divers would jump to the chance of helping a juinor out with help and techniques.
as a juinor myself i was approached and helped out from the first meeting.
just come to a dive or meeting and you could get all the help with watever you needed!
As with the spear give it a try and see how it goes. It would be interesting to see if the tungsten tip will stay atached to the shaft after a sudden impact.
good luck i hope it works for you!
dont take it as people bagging the idea of the tungston tip, but in a comp you want to keep your gear as simple as posible to narrow the risks of gear malfunction!
there isn't a feeling worste than not being able to finish a comp due to part of your kit breaking!
regards trent

KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid) is a fine principle, but how would technology move forward if people weren't prepared to put their ideas to the test. Give it a shot, if it works well, fantastic you could make a big difference to people who like shooting rocks rather than fish. If it doesn't, well then you'll have learned something, which is never a bad thing.

Chin up, maybe you can prove people wrong (if it works REALLY well, remember who's supporting you 8) )
