I would probably get a 5mm, two piece and open cell. You could use just the top bit in summer.I wouldn't get a 3mm.

Hey buddy,
A surf suit 4x3 mm wont cut it (zip up the back). A 2 piece 3mm open cell suit will be ok (built in hood & longjohns).
But for Cooler days a 5 mm 2 piece open cell is a must.
Do a look around on this forum and you will come accross this question time and time again. cheers

From my own experience i would get the warmest possible suit. Being a bit warm is preferable to getting
pnuemmonia. Just my experience from my uni days at Warnnambool.

I was fearing this myself, from W.A my wetsuit is a 3mm, and judging that its coming into the colder months (Although Vic is cold all the time for me ;P haha) I was scared I'd have to go shopping again!

For a Victorian Winter, would a 5mm suffice or should I go 7mm?

Cheers,
Lewy.

3mm will be fine, just get a vest to go under it for the winter months.

Fitzy is used to diving in ice back home (Ireland) and is frequently drunk when diving.

5mm is the go in Winter.

In winter I use a 6mm or a 5mm with a vest. Once the water temp gets below 15.5deg the 5mm on its own struggles on dives longer than 1-2hrs
As Brett will attest, he thinks I am a pussy when it comes to cold water. I can not argue.

The water gets that cold here!?!?!?!? FFF**KKKKK!!!! haha.

Yeah alright, mate I am the same... call me a pussy but I don't care! hahahaha. Think a 5mm wetty with a vest will be the way to go. Any vests you could recommend?

Like Greg, I'll be in my 5mm and the vest will be with me too. It's a matter of what you find comfortable and that's what I find comfortable.

so I just picked up my gear this weekend... got my 3mm wetty, thinking of the investment, but also thinking of just buying bull body thermals... final straw time before I make a financial commitment... what does the jury say? haha.
