Hey mate, if your new to the sport, firstly welcome.. you'll love it!

If your new I personally would reccomend hitting PPB (Port Phillip Bay).
you won't have the issue of swell or rips.. unless your close to the heads.

try dives near, curlewis, portarlington, St Leonards, indented heads,
if you get a buddy there are some good drifts at Queenscliff.

you will want to do ocean dives, the best way is go with someone who already knows what they're doing and can show you the ropes.

if only there was some kind of forum where you could try and meet with dive buddies.... oh well!

finally use google earth, learn the marine parks, fish ID and be honest about how competent you are in the water,
and people will hav eno hassle taking you for a dive!

hope that helps,

shannon, (bored at work!)

Yeah, thanks guys. I had a try starting in a sheltered bay (Port Cambpell) saw loads of fish parroties, magpie perch, snapper, bream, mullet and salmon. Got a few salmon, mullet and bream. Great fun then did what I have been doing for years a fished off the pier for 15 mins and caught 3 fish lots of fun.

I am around within about 1 hour of Peterborough, Port Cambpell, Warrnambool ect. But I go down to Angelsea, Aireys Inlet, Queenscliff ect. on the holidays.
