just reading the species list and competition rules for the australian championships and was wondering why cephalopods, crustaceans and molluscs are not in the comp species list. I'm mainly thinking that squid and crays would be included, not so much crabs, abs, cuttles etc...
And then i see dusky morwong is on the list? I find it a little hard to grasp that the seasoned pro's out there actually shoot duskys for comps(thats assuming they do)...
anyway thats why i like the format of the victorian challenge, all good edible fish, no preassure to shoot a shit fish to win.. :|

I would of thought shooting a variety of species, including the less palatable ones takes some of the pressure off the more favorable ones? Sort of "balancing it out" a bit?
When me old man competed they used to shoot just about everything that moved lol, no wonder Spearo's got a bad rep'.
But I agree I'd rather have a go at the Vic challenge & photo comps, that's what I'll sign up for eventually.

Well for one it is a spearfishing competition, generally you spear the things you catch. Two, it seems tradition to only shoot marine vertebrates not anything else that moves.

Think it also has some thing to do with people pushing their limits on getting crays (in and out of tight caves, long bottom times ect.)

crays are included in other spearfishing comps such as the victorian challenge so it didn't seem so "OBVIOUS" to me that they would not be included in this particular comp cos of the non spearing element....
