James and myself head off Beaumaris this afternoon. Upon inspection, conditions were looking good. Eager to get in the water, we geared up and set off. Upon entering the water, the visibility was average, but we soldiered on. It took 10 minutes for us to find an enormous school of salmon (100+ fish), with jimmy taking two good ones and myself shooting three, but landing only one. In the landing process of my salmon, I lost my knife and couldn't find it. Luckily it was only $10. We then ventured around the shallows to hunt some flathead, Jimmy found one and unfortunately missed. I took a nice shot at a large one from point blank and as I didn't have a knife, had to hail jimmy over so I could borrow his knife. The flatty measured up 53cm. I saw a dusky (Mum for some reason enjoys the taste of dusky) and had one shot to stone it (didn't have my knife) and I nailed the shot. I took home three fish and Jimmy took home two. A very good session. I have a video of one of the salmon I lost, which is quite funny, and a video of the salmon I managed to land. Ill post them below.

Dusky: 54cm 1.2kg.
Flathead: 53cm 825g
Salmon: 45cm 850g

Salmon Not Landed - I was a bit excited and don't usually celebrate, but this was my first salmon I had ever shot.

Great vids! I was under the impression that this was part of the Marine Park and you weren't able to fish here. I'm keen to get in there as its so close to home. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Ricketts Point MP boundaries (and all the other MP boundaries) are on the Parks Vic website.

There are two markers in between Beaumaris Pier and Table Rock which indicate the Marine Park - We were on the boundary of the Marine Park so we were in the safe zone. You can swim through the Marine park with an unloaded speargun but we usually go the long way around and get to our spot, just to be safe.

Who told you you can swim through a marine park with an unloaded gun Mitch? That's not true.

Hey Mitch, Greg is right.
The only time you can have an unloaded speargun in a marine national park or marine sanctuary is when you are in a boat traveling through the park by the shortest practical route.

I've double checked with fisheries. If there is any signage that states otherwise let me know.

Geoff

Oh Really Geoff / Greg?

Ive never swum through so thats alright, but i was told you could? People giving me false information!

The long way around would be better anyways because if you can see a fish you can shoot it.

So thought i would try a new spot this morning. Jumped in at canadian bay. Vis wasn't too bad but as with my last 4 dives have seen not alot of life and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if my life depended on it resulting in a very frustrated newbie.

Dived tonight. Lots of life (Zebs, Duskies, yakkas, gars, rays), water warm 18degrees.
Took home a feed. Flattie measured 50cm obliterated it with my 60cm cave gun
