Now, as I have been ageing, I am one of the unfortunate few that now wears spectacles... What has got me thinking is could I wear contact lenses when I dive? I dont know how much it would help due to visibilty, or whether they would get lost once some water gets into your mask and so on...

Anyone else here in the same boat or worn them before ;)

thanks

G'day mate
Yer, it works ok. I never lost one in the water but it could happen.
I always used prescription lenses.

Try getting one of those prescribed masks with built in glasses like lenses.
That's what my old man uses.

I wear contacts while diving. Haven't had any problems really.
If you end up in the water with your eyes opened then you'll probably loose them. Otherwise they're fine.

If you squint you can keep them in with a flooded mask, wouldn't try in the surf though.

I use contacts all the time. Have only lost one. This was due to eye position relative to head position. That is, I was scannning the bottom for flathead, then looked to the surface for gars. The lens popped out onto the mask. To simulate this, try sitting at a desk then look straight towards the ceiling without moving your head. Those who wear contacts know what I mean. Moral of the story: contacts are fine as long as your eye movement in the upward direction is not excessive.

Regarding prescription lenses. I prefer not to have them. Reason is that if I am on a boat and want to put on sunglasses, I can still see into the distance if I have my contacts in. If I have removed a prescription mask, I can't do this.

Hey, seems alot more common than I thought, well next dive I will be going with my contacts, I will use the disoposables first time around just to see... The last dive I had I knew when I was 3+m of water the bottom wasnt as sharp as it used to be.

Prescribed Goggles, havent heard of them, going to Bali again soon and I got a spectacle man there whom I am sure will do me a great deal. How do they go with fogging up south? Are they tempered glass?

Thanks and happy diving ;)

No matter how hard I try I can't move the position of my eye relative to the position of my head.

I've had 2 sorts, one was a custom lense they glued to the original lense, the other was a mask that have a range of prescription made for them. Didn't have any problems with fogging.

Suggest putting some springs in the frames of your glasses. That way your eyeballs can hang low like mine do.
