Can't see why they shouldn't under strict regs., hand harvest. Stops us buying as much from China where no doubt poor fisheries techniques and management are used. My understanding is that the bulk of the issue was the total distruction of the bottom when dredging pre 1997. Happy to be corrected if anyone knows better.

Yes destruction of the bottom. The bay of RYE was lifeless grey slimy mud back then. Since stopping the dredging the bay has in improved out of sight. It was like harvesting mushrooms from a forest with a Bulldozer.
