In 1970, the GBR was to be decimated by the Crown of Thorns Starfish within 3 years. It's still there. If it's gunna go. it's gunna go and nothing will halt the process. And making the whole joint a park will do NOTHING bar making a few idealists ( or unrealists as I prefer) warm and fuzzy inside.

Yeah, and global cooling was the big threat in the 1970's. There was all sorts of "evidence" we where entering the next Ice Age. Now there's all sorts of "evidence" for global warming.
