200 ABALONE SEIZED AT APOLLO BAY

TWO men ran their car into a tree when they allegedly tried to avoid fisheries officers at Elliot River, about 10 km west of Apollo Bay, this morning.
The men, from Geelong, were not injured and were later interviewed by Fisheries Officers at
Apollo Bay.
Approximately 200 abalone meats, some of them under size, were seized.
The men’s car was intercepted during a routine patrol on a bush road, not far from the beach.
Diving gear and fishing equipment were also seized, along with the car.
They are expected to be charged on summons.
Anyone who sees or suspects illegal fishing activity is urged to call the 24-hour reporting line 13-
FISH (13 3474).
